Sorry this is just the way I am.

How are you all today? I wanted to write about how we can fool ourselves into believing that a negative behaviour we might have is just the way I am. Well what if they are symptoms of something else. What if they are behaviours that we have learned to cope with whatever was going off in our lives when we were growing up?

How can we tell if we are suffering from an unresolved Trauma and what do we look out for? After all sometimes we are not even aware that we have a Trauma that needs resolving because we have buried it somewhere but you can’t hide the effects, they will show up in our lives in various ways. Just have a look at this list and see if you can relate to any of them.

  1. Anxiety or panic attacks that happen for no apparent reason.

  2. Suffering from chronic or ongoing depression.

  3. Sleeping problems that include going to sleep and staying asleep.

  4. Addictions and eating disorders including comfort eating in an attempt to numb out or escape negative emotions.

  5. Flashbacks or nightmares regarding a traumatic event.

  6. Uncontrollable anger that can be triggered by the slightest thing.

  7. Suicidal thoughts and feelings.

  8. Hypervigilance, feelings of being on guard, you don’t feel safe.

  9. Feeling separate or disconnected in company, feeling different alone

Or lonely even in a crowd

Also unexplained irrational fears of people, places or things.

If you identify with any of these signs then maybe it’s time to ask yourself is this the time to look for some answers. There are plenty of people out there suffering and some will choose to soldier on and make do with living a half-life deprived of true happiness and what we are really capable of, our true potential.

Peter Levine, Ph.D who has treated and researched Trauma for some 40+ years say’s this….

“The effects of unresolved trauma can be devastating. It can affect our habits and outlook on life, leading to addictions and poor decision making. It can take a toll on our family life and interpersonal relationships. It can trigger real physical pain symptoms and disease.”

I have realised from my own experience and from what I have seen with those I work with that unresolved Trauma is the cause of so much unnecessary suffering and I say unnecessary because it can be treated.

If you decide to make that decision then the next step is to find the right help and that is a personal decision that only you can make.

I have made this my mission to keep talking about “unresolved childhood trauma” because for too long it has been ignored, swept under the carpet, it’s treated as a taboo subject and people are led to believe it takes years of therapy to treat it.

Well it doesn’t take years of therapy and yet there are millions of people in the world trapped in addictions, suicidal, depressed and thinking there is no way out well I’m here to tell you that’s a lie. I see transformations every day. I saw one this morning with a young client and I will see many more. I have the best job in the world and I love every minute of it and look where I came from! Believe me Miracles do happen!!!
